How To Play “Virtual Insanity” By Jamiroquai – Rhythm Guitar Lesson

Hey, this is Mattias Rengel with Guitar Control, we’ll be learning “Virtual Insanity” by Jamiroquai.

The first thing that we should note in this song is that there are two parts we got the verse and then we have the chorus. In the verse the chords sometimes are a little bit sort of like a pre-chorus and they alter their positions a little bit but still it’s kind of like the same progression that’s happening so let’s check it out. What exactly I’m going is to name the chords that are playing and then we’re going to get into them so 7-7-7-5 and B flat 7 sharp 5.

Now for the chorus he goes P major 7 they diminish sound then he goes to do flat major 7 a flat seven B flat seven he starts again so now let’s break all this craziness let’s break it down so this song is clearly flat minor so my 1st quarter were playing is that 1 for this you’re gonna place your index finger on the sixth fret of from the fifth to the first string and then you’re gonna place your ring finger on the eighth fret of the 4th string and your middle finger on the s 7th fret of the 2nd string.

Now for the next chord major 7 you’ll be placing across the 4th fret and you’re going to bring you so much as if you’re it’s very easy so most of them have the same chord here and we bring it down two frets and then we grab these two fingers and bring them up a string so it’s like we bring out these two fingers and string up so if this one was in the fourth he goes in the fifth this one was in the second.

For the next thing you’re going into the D9, all you have to do is place your middle finger on the 4th fret of the 5th string I’m and index finger on the 3rd fret of the 4th string and then you go on to the 4th fret of the 3rd and 2nd string the ring and the pinky, index finger on the 2nd fret of the 6th string you’re not going to play the 6th. On the 5th string you’ll be muting it with this one, then go with your ring finger on the 3rd fret of the 4th string and pinky finger on the 3rd fret of the 3rd string and middle finger on the 2nd fret of the 2nd string.

For the next chord you’ll be having C minor 7 flat 5 this one is a very difficult to play and you’re going to place your index finger at the 3rd fret of the 5th string, your ring finger on the 4th fret of the 4th string middle finger on the 3rd fret of the 3rd string and pinky finger on the 4th fret of the 2nd string. That’s your B major 7.

Now we go into our B flat 7 sharp 5, for this one you’re going 6th fret of the 6th string, 6th fret of the 4th string, 7th fret of the same string, 7th fret of the 2nd string you could also play it with your pinky on the first, of course this song is with piano where we adapted into ours. So the rhythm that I’m playing to adapt it is I’m just muting the strings twice.

Pretty cool, now for the chords what you’re going to do, we have our middle finger in there and you’re going to take this chords two frets up and then you can exchange the middle and then you go to a E flat minor 7. Check this out for this one is going to be faster which is the G flat major 7 and then you’re going to move this two frets up which is a B flat 7 but this very fast. I cannot really sing it but you anyway and that’s the entire song. Now there are certain parts like in the pre-chorus where it changes a little bit but the changes are in the positions of the chords. And then just go faster into this or it stays here and goes there but that’s the song basically, you can just keep by and then go to the chorus.

It’s a complicated song and I’m going to admit it the chords are not for beginners, but let me tell you something if you click on the link into the scripture and you get the tab on this video you’ll be able to play it. I mean he’s it takes a little bit of practice and you’ll be able to play it.

Anyway, this is it for today I hope you’ve enjoyed this lesson go listen to this song and go listen to all the albums by Jamiroquai he’s an incredible artist and don’t forget to subscribe on our YouTube Channel and we’ll see you in our next video lessons, thanks for watching.
