How To Play Peace Of Mind by Boston

How To Play Peace Of Mind by Boston

Now that I live in the Boston area, I swear they are biased — they play Boston tunes more often on the radio than in Philly. Don’t get me wrong — I’m not complaining.

I LOVE Boston.

The band, that is.

Maybe you already can play
“More Than A Feelin”

But can you play “Peace of Mind”?

I caught it on the radio yesterday and figured this tune would make a great
lesson. Also while you are here, please share your comments on what gives
you peace of mind in real life.

Introduction

Hey guys Claude Johnson here and in today’s lesson I’m going to teach you one of my absolute favorite songs Peace of Mind by Boston. So let’s jump into the lesson.

Peace Of Mind Riff

Alright, so the main riff of Peace Of Mind by Boston is basically the chorus and it’s a 4 chord progression C, C sharp minor, A major, E major and B major and these are all barre chords, so if you don’t know your basic barre chords, please check some of my beginner lessons just for getting up to speed with the barre chords. So once again C sharp minor on the fourth fret, A major on the fifth fret, E on the 7th fret and then B. So you start off with the basic strum, so one, two, three, four, one, two, okay.

Rhythm

Now the intro for Peace Of Mind by Boston is basically the same chords, but there are a lot of little rhythmic subtleties, so real slow it would be like this… I’ll try to play even slower… So the first chord you almost have like a percussive thing going into the A. So what I’m doing here is I’m lifting off with my left hand instead of fully pressing down, I’m just lifting off so I get this… So then when you go to the A chord you hit it twice and then you do what I call like digga digga, then you go up to the E… And then you do a little back and forth and then on the last strum, I’m playing the low notes and then the higher notes, it’s real subtle. So practice that rhythm.

Conclusion

So hope that makes sense. A lot of different things, but it’s a really cool song, so practice it and have fun. Alright guys I hope you enjoyed How To Play Peace Of Mind by Boston and  thanks for watching and I’ll catch you next time.
